UDA Architects collaborated with the United Church in Walpole on a thoughtful renovation and expansion that balances architectural preservation with forward-looking design. Located in the town center, the church required substantial infrastructure upgrades to continue serving as a vital community hub. The project included reconfiguring the first floor, removing an outdated addition, and introducing a new wing to support evolving programmatic needs. The addition features bright, modern daycare classrooms and a versatile rooftop deck for community events. Contemporary interventions enhance energy performance, accessibility, and flexibility to ensure the building can adapt to the congregation’s changing needs over time.

This 5,000 square-foot, low-energy storage and assembly facility was designed for the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) to support intermittent use with maximum efficiency. Constructed with a durable, pre-engineered steel frame, the building provides flexible space for equipment storage and component assembly. Key features include a 25-ton overhead crane to accommodate heavy loads and radiant slab heating in designated areas to maintain comfort during occupancy. Tailored to WHOI’s operational needs, the facility balances functionality, performance, and energy-conscious design—delivering a cost-effective, purpose-built solution that supports ongoing innovation in oceanographic research and development.
